ABOUT US

The Arlingtones Barbershop Chorus is the Arlington, Virginia chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS), formerly known as the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America, Incorporated (SBEBSQSA). We are one of over 700 chapters in the United States and Canada with combined membership of over 30,000.

We are a non-profit a cappella group dedicated to preserving and performing barbershop music in Arlington, Virginia, and the surrounding area. Founded in 1957, the chorus and chapter quartets have a well-known tradition of providing clean, wholesome, quality entertainment for a variety of functions throughout Northern Virginia.

The Chapter is sponsored in part by Arlington County through the Cultural Affairs Division of the Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Resources and the Arlington Commission for the Arts.

The Arlingtones Barbershop Chorus is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. For more information on ways to support us, please visit our Sponsors Page.

VISION

The Arlingtones seek to preserve the art of 4-part a cappella music by offering performances in the barbershop style, and endeavor to further develop Arlington as a Community of Harmony through its performances and support of the musical life of the community.

MISSION

Our mission is to:

  • Enthusiastically promote the uniquely American a cappella musical style called barbershop.

  • Encourage vocal harmony, fellowship, and good entertainment in the community.

  • Perform within the community on a regular basis.

  • Strive for the best artistic and vocal quality possible at each performance, with the goal of promoting greater public appreciation of barbershop harmony.

  • Accept the challenge of competition to improve our singing, music, and performance skills.

  • Offer weekly chapter meetings that are well planned, musically satisfying, and fun.

  • Enrich and energize each member through fellowship, fun, and the joy of singing.

  • Encourage all members and non-members alike to participate within their capabilities.

  • Participate in the cultural life of Arlington through outreach and music education.

We are proud to take a leading role in diversity and inclusion. The Arlingtones Barbershop Chorus was the first chapter in the Mid-Atlantic District to incorporate female voices. We would like to extend an invitation to all individuals to discover their own singing power and create a culture where difference is valued.

We welcome all voices to join us in harmony!
